  1. the really thin, throwaway ones aint worth a hoot. They tear so easily, are nearly impossible to keep around you in just a mild breeze. You're way ahead to have a black garbage bag, heavy duty, or better yet, (but bulkier) the much stronger drum liner. at least it's a bag, so you dont have to hold it together. If you wrap the throwaway splace blanket around you, and then cover the package with the garbage bag, you'll be a lot happier with the results. You'll have better protection from wind and rain, but you'll get condensation issues within a couple of hours. So include at least one bandanna in your preps, so you can buy yourself another couple of hours by removing the bag, shaking and wiping out the condensation and putting it over you again. Since this total package weighs about 1/4 lb and the bulk is no more than that of a thick wallet, there's no excuse for not having at least this much in the way of protection when in a crisis, especially not if you're in your vehicle.
